Frequently Asked Questions

What is Chiropractic Care?

A) There is nothing mysterious about chiropractic care. The word itself is a combination of the Greek word “chiro” or hand, and “practic” or practice, thus defined as “treatment by hand.” Ninety percent of chiropractic treatment is adjusting the spine to balance the nervous system. Plainly put, with normally functioning nerves, joints, and spine, plus a healthy lifestyle, your body is better able to heal itself. At Performance Health & Wellness we also utilize Active Release Techniques to expand our work to deal with all of the body’s muscles. Through biomechanical analytics we help to restore the health of your entire body and guide you in a personalized approach to overall health and wellness.

What is a Chiropractor’s education?

A) By law, chiropractors in all 50 states are Doctors of Chiropractic. It takes a minimum of six years of rigorous academic training and clinical internships in the sciences and health care to earn a Doctor of Chiropractic degree (DC).

A chiropractic curriculum follows the same curriculum as is used in medical school for the first two years. While medical students thereafter begin their focus on pathology (diseases), pharmacology (drugs), and surgery, chiropractic students focus on health, musculature, and techniques to help the body heal itself naturally.

At Performance Health & Wellness, our team of doctors have not only earned their DC degree, they have graduated at the top of their class, graduating with Magna Cum Laude, Summa Cum Laude and Cum Laude honors. Our team also further continues to advance their education and knowledge of new techniques and medical training in order to provide patients with the very best health care possible.

What is Active Release Techniques (ART)?

A) Active Release Techniques (ART) is a manual technique designed to restore motion and return the body to its natural state. Once an injury has been assessed, an ART specialist uses hands-on treatment and patient motion to “free up” the problem areas. This soft tissue management system is so unique that it has been granted a medical patent. ART is successful for professional and amateur athletes, people injured in auto accidents or at work, and people who just work hard and have body pain.

What can I expect when visiting Performance Health & Wellness?

A) First there will be a consultation and examination with our dedicated team of Health and Wellness Specialists to determine the nature of your condition. If necessary, we will refer out for X-rays. Once we have conducted a thorough investigation and determined where the problem lies, we will offer you an individualized timeline and outlook so we can chart progress and return you to optimum health.

How long are typical appointments?

A) Your first visit will take about one hour. Follow-up visits will vary between 15 to 45 minutes depending on your specific condition and personal needs.

How long before I start seeing results?

A) Results are typically quite quick. It’s not unusual for our patients to see relief after their very first visit. But the vast majority of our patients see improvement within 4 to 6 visits. Treatment duration and frequency may vary depending on the severity and complexity of your injury.

Is treatment expensive?

A) Chiropractic care is a low-cost, effective health care solution for a wide range of conditions. When compared to the substantial cost of surgery, physical therapy, and/or medications, as well as the risks and side effects associated with those more invasive treatment options, the cost of chiropractic treatment is far less.

Does my insurance cover chiropractic?

A) The majority of all insured American workers have coverage for chiropractic services in their health plans. Since we are an Out-of-Network provider, you may want to check with your insurance carrier to see the extent of coverage you receive.

Do I need to be referred by an MD?

A) A patient does not need a referral before visiting Performance Health & Wellness. Chiropractors are considered first-contact physicians and are defined so by state and federal regulations. They are therefore able to see patients at patients’ request, without the need of any referring doctor.
